Former Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, will run for Senate in 2026, hoping to unseat Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio, whom Gov. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, appointed to replace Vice President JD Vance.

Brown lost his seat in 2024 to the Trump-backed Bernie Moreno after serving since 2006. Cleveland.com first reported on his plans, citing "Ohio labor leaders Brown told of his thinking."

He is expected to cruise to the Democratic nomination, though he may face an uphill battle as the state has drifted strongly into the Republican camp in recent years.

His run, nonetheless, is a boon for Democrats, who themselves face an uphill battle to reclaim the majority in the Senate.
