White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller on Monday put GOP Sen. Rand Paul in his social media crosshairs over his advocacy for less border enforcement funding amid ongoing riots in Los Angeles over immigration enforcement.

"While ICE officers are battling violent mobs in Los Angeles, Rand Paul is trying to cut funding for deportations and border security," Miller said on X in response to a clip of Paul on Fox News.

Paul has been a vocal critic of the "big, beautiful bill" on spending. The clip showed him arguing that the funding allocated to border wall construction and expanded border enforcement in the legislation was exorbitant and that the administration only needed half that sum to accomplish its goals.

To be sure, Paul is advocating for a smaller sum in new spending and not a cut to existing figures.

"On Fox this morning, I argued for $75 billion in new spending for the border," he said in a social media post.

Current estimates are that a 1,000 miles of wall can be built for about $7 billion and $68 billion would still employee thousands of new border patrol agents, immigration judges and expanded detention facilities."
