Teenage canvasser for Warnock shot in Savannah
Police have asserted the shooting does not appear to have a political motivation.
A 15-year-old boy campaigning for Georgia Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock was shot Thursday afternoon in the coastal town of Savannah.
He was struck in the leg and subsequently hospitalized at the Memorial Medical Center, according to The Hill. Police have arrested 42-year-old Jimmy Paiz and charged him with aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
Police have asserted the shooting does not appear to have a political motivation.
The shooting comes ahead of the Tuesday runoff election between Warnock and Trump-backed challenger Herschel Walker. Polling shows the pair locked in a dead heat.
The outcome will not decide control of the upper chamber as Democrats have already won 50 seats and Vice President Kamala Harris can cast the tie-breaking vote.
