Tim Scott raises $1 million in a day, campaign claims
The lawmaker is currently in a tie for sixth place with former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Republican South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott is reportedly flush with cash after raking in a $1 million windfall in the past 24 hours, his campaign has claimed.
Scott is seeking the Republican nomination for president in 2024. His campaign told The Hill on Thursday that events in Charleston and New York City had seen the senator bring in the considerable sum.
The lawmaker is currently in a tie for sixth place with former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Each claims 2.3% support in the RealClearPolitics polling average. Former President Donald Trump stands well ahead with 58.8%, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis places second with 12.5%. Tech mogul Vivek Ramaswamy claimed third with 7.5% support while former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and former Vice President Mike Pence took 5.0% and 4.1% support respectively.
Scott spoke little during the first Republican presidential debate and did not appear to benefit much in the polls for his participation in the event. He hopes, however, to improve his position at the second primary debate later this month.
"Tim looks forward to being back on the debate stage to draw the serious policy distinctions between the candidates," campaign spokesman Matt Gorman told The Hill. "Whether it be the economy, parental rights, or his vision for the country, Tim is prepared to have a conversation with voters, be the adult in the room, and demonstrate why he is the strongest candidate to beat Joe Biden."
Trump does not plan to attend the second debate and will instead travel to Detroit to address union workers amid a United Auto Workers strike. He did not attend the first debate as well and opted instead to release a pre-recorded interview with Tucker Carlson.
