Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed Tuesday that he will be meeting with Maryland Democratic Gov. Wes Moore in the near future to discuss the rising reconstruction costs of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.

The Key Bridge, which collapsed in March 2024 after being hit by a cargo ship, is currently projected to cost between $4.3 billion and $5.2 billion to rebuild, up from the previous cost estimate of $1.7 billion to $1.9 billion. Repairs are also expected to be completed in 2030.

Duffy did not specify when the meeting with Moore will take place, but it is expected to include several transportation-related projects, including the American Legion Memorial Bridge on the Capital Beltway.

"The Francis Scott Key Bridge is a vital piece of infrastructure that connects millions of people traveling through Baltimore to other parts of the country," Duffy posted on X. "Rebuilding it MUST be done ON TIME and ON BUDGET, which is why I’m meeting with [Moore] and other local leaders."

Ammar Moussa, Moore’s senior press secretary, told Fox-45 in Baltimore that the governor is cooperating with the Trump administration and Congress to speed up the bridge's reconstruction.

“We all recognize the rebuild of the Key Bridge and other infrastructure improvements to enhance transportation mobility is important to the economic vitality of both the region and the nation, and the Governor looks forward to meeting with Secretary Duffy,” Moussa said.
