Maryland Democratic Rep. David Trone appears to have staked out a modest lead in the state's Democratic Senate primary, a recent survey has revealed.

Trone is facing off against Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks to face off against the expected Republican nominee, ex-Gov. Larry Hogan. The eventual winner will succeed retiring Sen. Ben Cardin, D.

In the latest Goucher College and The Baltimore Banner poll found Trone leading over Alsobrooks by a 42% to 33% margin among Democratic voters, Politico reported. The survey further showed both Democrats trailing against Hogan.

Hogan led Trone by a 43% to 42% margin. He fared slightly better against Alsobrooks, earning 44% support to her 40%.

Conducted from March 19-24, the survey questioned 800 Maryland voters, including 408 likely Democratic voters and has a margin of error of +/-3.5 for general election questions and +/- 4.9% for Democratic primary questions.

The general contest results show a closer race than a Washington Post-University of Maryland survey from March in which Hogan boasted double-digit leads against either Democratic candidate.
