Trump up 2 points over Biden in 2024 rematch: poll
Independents split evenly between the pair, with 44% backing each candidate.
Former President Donald Trump led President Joe Biden by two points in a recent survey, marking the latest in a string of polling leads suggesting the Republican is poised to reclaim the White House in 2024.
Trump earned the support of 48% of registered voters in the most recent Quinnipiac survey, while Biden trailed with 46%. The results marked the first time since February 2023 that Trump led his likely 2024 rival.
"Trump on top for the first time, at least numerically, and Biden in a slow slide. Though the gap between them is small, the optics of the incumbent now on the downside of a neck and neck race against an opponent taking legal fire from all corners can't be good," Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy said.
Independents split evenly between the pair, with 44% backing each candidate. Both further enjoyed the overwhelmingly support of members of their own party. Ninety-six percent of Republicans backed Trump compared to 94% of Democrats who backed Biden.
Overall, Trump leads Biden by 1.0% in the RealClearPolitics polling average, which includes the Quinnipiac survey.
Trump further edged out Biden in a hypothetical three-way race with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., earning 38% to Biden's 37% and Kennedy's 21%. In a five-way race adding independent Cornel West and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Trump earned 38%, Biden took 35%, Kennedy received 17%, West took 3%, and Stein took 3%.
Conducted Nov. 9-13, the survey questioned 1,574 registered voters and has a margin of error of +/- 2.5%.
