Trump up 27 points over Harris with Teamsters members: Union poll
The results represent a significant departure from earlier polling with President Joe Biden in the race.
Former President Donald Trump enjoys a commanding lead over Vice President Kamala Harris among members of the Teamsters Union, an internal poll from the union has revealed.
“For the past year, the Teamsters Union has pledged to conduct the most inclusive, democratic, and transparent Presidential endorsement process in the history of our 121-year-old organization—and today we are delivering on that promise to our members,” Teamsters General President Sean M. O'Brien said in a social media post.
The union's phone poll showed 58% of members backed Trump while 31% backed Harris. Six percent were undecided and 5% did not know. Trump's margin increased in the electronic member poll, with 59.6% of respondents backing him, compared to 34% who preferred Harris and 6.4% who wanted someone else.
Trump, for his part, has long pitched union members and blue-collar workers on the prospect of repatriating American jobs from abroad and preserving domestic industry.
The results represent a significant departure from earlier polling with President Joe Biden in the race. A Teamsters Union straw poll completed in early July showed Biden leading Trump 44.3% to 36.3%.
“Our members are the union, and their voices and opinions must be at the forefront of everything the Teamsters do. Our final decision around a possible Presidential endorsement will not be made lightly, but you can be sure it will be driven directly by our diverse membership," O'Brien added.
