Former President Donald Trump currently leads President Joe Biden in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania, which he must almost definitely win in 2024 to reclaim the White House.

Trump earned 47% support of registered voters to Biden's 45% in the latest Quinnipiac University survey. Among independents, Trump led his rival 48% to 39%. The pair's favorable/unfavorable ratings stand nearly even, with Biden scoring 39%/57% and Trump earning a marginally better 40%/56%.

"Biden vs. Trump: same as it ever was, setting up another likely bare-knuckled brawl between the two candidates in Biden's home state," Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy said of the results.

In terms of job performance, Biden was underwater with 41% approving of his tenure compared to 55% who disapproved of him.

Among Republicans, Trump stood out as the clear favorite to win the party nomination with 61% support to nearest rival Ron DeSantis's 14%. No other candidate reached double digits.

Conducted Sept. 28-Oct. 2, the survey questioned 1,725 self-identified registered voters and has a margin of error of +/- 2.4%.
