Trump and Biden tied in White House race: poll
Overall, Joe Biden's approval rating stood at 38%, with 56% disapproving of his performance.
Former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden are tied in a hypothetical 2024 White House race, according to a recent survey that has seen Biden leading his 2020 rival for the past several months.
The pair each earned 44% support among registered voters in the September iteration of the YouGov/Yahoo News survey. In August, Biden led Trump 47% to 41% and previously was ahead of him in every iteration of the survey since March, when Trump held a modest lead.
Seemingly driving much of the shift are changing perceptions of Biden's fitness for office and the alleged corrupt activities of the first family. A mere 27% of respondents believe Biden is "fit to serve another term as president." By contrast, 39% said the same of Trump, marking a 5% increase since last month.
Perceived Biden corruption has also risen, with 47% saying they believe Biden and his family are corrupt. Last month, that figure stood at 45%. The public's perception of the Bidens and Trumps are both somewhat negative on the corruption front. 41% said the Trumps were more corrupt than the Bidens while 38% opined in the reverse. In August, respondents believed the Trumps were more corrupt by a 46% to 36% margin.
The change in that metric comes amid the launching of an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden by House Republicans and their continued pursuit of materials related to an alleged bribery scheme in which a Ukrainian executive hired Hunter Biden to secure his then-vice president father's support in stifling a corruption probe into his firm.
Hunter Biden, moreover, has faced a separate investigation into his taxes and alleged gun violations since 2018. That probe has since become a special counsel investigation.
Overall, Joe Biden's approval rating stood at 38%, with 56% disapproving of his performance.
Conducted Sept. 14-18, the survey questioned 1,636 U.S. adults.
Trump leads Biden in the RealClearPolitics polling average by 0.5%. That metric includes the YouGov/Yahoo News poll.
