President Donald Trump this week announced that Uzbekistan had agreed to purchase $8 billion in "dreamliners" from Boeing and that the deal would create 35,000 jobs in the U.S.

"Earlier this month I spoke with the Highly Respected President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Today I want to congratulate President Mirziyoyev on signing a GREAT Deal with Boeing!" Trump posted on X. "Worth over $8 Billion Dollars, Uzbekistan Airways is purchasing 22,787 Dreamliners. This will create over 35,000 jobs in the United States. President Mirziyoyev is a man of his word, and we will continue to work together on many more items! Thank you for your attention to this matter."

The announcement follows Trump concluding an agreement with Kazakhstan in which the country agreed to purchase railroad equipment from the United States.

Both Central Asian countries are in the Russian and Chinese economic orbits, with Kazakhstan a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. Uzbekistan was formerly a member of that bloc, but has seen relations with Moscow fluctuate.
