President Donald Trump on Monday announced that Mesabi Metallics will build a major steel plant in Iowa.

Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, Gov. Kim Reynolds, R-Iowa, Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, and several members of Iowa's congressional delegation also attended the event.

Trump made the announcement in the Oval Office, calling the planned facility "the largest steel plant in American history" and saying it would produce 10 million tons of steel per year and use iron ore from Minnesota.

The deal is expected to produce as many as 6,000 construction jobs and comes ahead of the midterms. Iowa is the setting for competitive Senate and gubernatorial races this November.
