President Donald Trump on Thursday announced an initiative to streamline veterans of the Armed Forces for approval of commercial drivers' licenses (CDLs) and relevant training.

Trump made the announcement in a press conference, during which he highlighted the administration's efforts to crack down on illegal aliens with CDLs and its imposition of English language requirements for truckers.

Trump's reforms will allow veterans with vehicle operating experience to skip what he called "redundant road tests" and will offer training to those veterans who lack the vehicle experience.

Appearing with Trump was Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who also touted the improved opportunities for veterans and the increase in road safety from eliminating unqualified truck drivers.

Illegal aliens receiving CDLs has drawn national attention in recent years due to a string of fatal collisions involving illegal alien truck drivers, many of whom could not speak English.
