President Donald Trump on Monday insisted that polls showing Republicans poised to lose critical races in the midterms were illegitimate, and part of a "demoralization" operation to dissuade GOP voters from heading to the polls.

"The Radical Left Democrats are going CRAZY with Fake Polls. They’re putting them out at levels never seen before," he posted on Truth Social. "They’re called, 'Demoralization Operations,' where they try to demoralize Republicans so that they don’t go out and vote — But the actual Polls are tremendous, and the Spirit in our Country has never been higher. We’re winning against EVERYONE, including Iran, whose Country is in Economic and Military Death Spiral."

Trump did not point to any specific surveys, but several typically Republican states have posted polling suggesting that the Senate races this cycle would be hotly contested. Among those contests are the Senate races in Texas, Alaska, Ohio, and Iowa.

Notably, many surveys showing the advance of left-wing candidates have erred significantly from the final results in key primaries. Recent surveys in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, for example, heavily favored socialist candidates in the Democratic Primaries, only for the establishment candidates to significantly over-perform.
