President Donald Trump appeared to express skepticism over the outcome of the Brazilian presidential election on Sunday, as defeated candidate Flávio Bolsonaro arrived in the U.S.

"The election was very strange, and I thought it was terrible. It got bad reviews, and look what happened to their market," Trump told reporters.

Bolsonaro lost to incumbent Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in what was widely considered to be an upset. Bolsonaro placed first in the first round of the contest, but Lula managed to overcome the deficit to claim a clear win.

But the contest was marred by allegations of improprieties, with a Supreme Court justice who previously served as Lula's own attorney, extending polling hours. Bolsonaro had originally planned to seek the annulment of the results, but ultimately fled to the United States, arriving in the country despite the Brazilian government canceling his passport.
