Trump campaign touts evangelical support in Iowa as faith leaders endorse him
"As a pastor in Iowa, I believe President Trump has demonstrated a profound understanding of the issues that are crucial to us," Crossroads Church Senior Pastor Joseph Hall said.
More than 150 faith leaders in Iowa have thrown their support behind former President Donald Trump ahead of the state's primary contest, potentially helping him to shore up a key voting bloc in Hawkeye State.
The Iowa Caucuses mark the first nominating contest in the Republican primary and Trump's opponents have invested heavily there in the hopes of notching an early win to boost momentum against a strong frontrunner.
"President Trump's broad appeal amongst Iowa's evangelical community is a testament to his unwavering commitment to upholding faith and family values," read a Tuesday statement from the campaign touting the endorsements. "Since the launch of the President's faith coalition in Iowa just three weeks ago, the number of faith leaders endorsing his candidacy has surged by more than 50, demonstrating a rapidly growing grassroots organization within the Christian community."
Pastor Dan McCoy, who leads the First Baptist Church in Urbandale, deemed the announcement a "powerful message that faith communities trust President Trump to lead our nation forward with integrity and moral clarity."
"As a pastor in Iowa, I believe President Trump has demonstrated a profound understanding of the issues that are crucial to us," Crossroads Church Senior Pastor Joseph Hall said.
Trump maintains an average 29.7% lead in Iowa, according to RealClearPolitics.
