Trump campaign trolls Biden team over VP debate: 'We don't know' who'll be the nominee
After Trump named Ohio GOP Sen. JD Vance as his running mate, the Biden campaign that Vice President Kamala Harris was prepared to debate him.
The Trump campaign on Wednesday fired a broadside at the Biden campaign over the prospect of having the vice presidential candidates debate one another, suggesting that the Democrats had yet to decide their candidate amid calls for President Joe Biden to step aside.
"We don’t know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we can’t lock in a date before their convention. To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate," said Trump Campaign Senior Advisor Brian Hughes.
Traditionally, the Republican and Democratic nominees for vice president debate one another during the election cycle. After Trump named Ohio GOP Sen. JD Vance as his running mate, the Biden campaign that Vice President Kamala Harris was prepared to debate him.
The Democratic National Convention is scheduled for next month and, thus far, Biden has resisted calls to step aside as the nominee. Harris previously debated former Vice President Mike Pence in 2020.
