President Donald Trump on Friday celebrated a strong August jobs report, which significantly exceeded expectations, and used the development to call for lowering interest rates.

The U.S. economy added 162,000 jobs in August, while unemployment remained steady at 4.1%.

"Great jobs number just announced, breaking all estimates (except mine!) by double and triple - And you haven’t seen anything yet!" he posted on Truth Social. "Lower the interest rates because the U.S.A. is a much stronger credit than it was just a short time ago!"

Trump has long urged the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates, hoping to give a boost to the economy. He was repeatedly critical of former Chairman Jerome Powell's unwillingness to do so, but has since managed to install Kevin Warsh as his replacement.

"Lower the rate or I'll stop trading with countries with which we have a deficit, which the U.S. Supreme Court... strongly acknowledged 'the president' has an absolute right to do. It's better than tariffs!" he added.

During Powell's sting as chairman, he was hesitant to lower rates over lingering inflation concerns. Warsh, for his part, has kept rates constant for two straight Fed meetings since his confirmation.
