President Donald Trump on Wednesday demanded that Federal Reserve Governor Jerome Powell resign after an Inspector General's report on the renovation of the Fed's headquarters suffered from managerial shortcomings.

Trump's Department of Justice previously opened a probe into the delayed project, with Trump himself repeatedly suggesting that then-Chairman Powell was engaged in underhanded activities related to the project. The Inspector General's report, released Wednesday, did not accuse Powell of criminal wrongdoing.

"The IG’s Report states that there were 'deficiencies in the management of the renovation project,'" Trump posted on Truth Social. "The Building is over budget, at a Record Setting rate and, at a minimum, 'Too Late' Powell should be forced to resign from the Board. He can’t manage a Building, and he certainly shouldn’t be allowed to manage his High Interest Rate Policy (only on 'TRUMP!')."

He also indicated that he had asked Attorney General Tood Blanche to review the IG report, which explicitly state "we did not
identify administrative misconduct during our evaluation."
