Trump: 'Donors are largely leaving' DeSantis
Trump further recalled the story in which he gave his endorsement to the now-Florida governor during which he first sought the party nomination in 2018.
Former President Donald Trump on Friday asserted that he had begun to receive numerous calls from would-be donors following his surge in the polls over Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.
"DeSanctus is failing badly," Trump said during a Friday appearance on Steve Bannon's "War Room." "The donors are largely leaving him now." "DeSanctus" is the short-form version of Trump's preferred nickname for the Florida governor, "Ron DeSanctimonious."
"What's happening is the donors are calling me right now because the donors follow the polls and when they see a guy just getting clobbered..." Trump said. The former President currently stands 28.3% points ahead of DeSantis in the RealClearPolitics polling average.
Trump further recalled the story in which he gave his endorsement to the now-Florida governor during which he first sought the party nomination in 2018.
"He was a lousy politician because before he met me, before I gave him the endorsement, he was at 3%." Trump went on. DeSantis ultimately claimed the party nomination following Trump's endorsement and went on to narrow defeat Democratic rival Andrew Gillum in the general election.
