President Donald Trump on Wednesday suggested that oil and gas prices would fall considerably after the midterm elections.

As of press time, AAA reports the average price of a gallon of gas to be $4.22.

"Right after the election, oil prices are going to be tumbling downward. They're going to be tumbling down, and we'll get them down, I think for gasoline, we'll get them below $2 a gallon," he told reporters.

His comments came as reporters pressed him on the impact of the Iran war and voter concerns about rising costs. Trump has defended the conflict, asserting that the costs of allowing Iran to develop a nuclear weapon were too great too ignore.

But the ongoing war remains unpopular with the public and it remains unclear whether the voters will heed his calls for patience.
