President Donald Trump invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit the White House in September during his ongoing visit to Beijing.

The invitation came as Trump hopes to win Chinese support to pressure Iran and end the conflict in the Persian Gulf. China remains a pivotal economic partner of Iran and input from Beijing could potentially yield concessions on the negotiating table.

The Chinese presidential visit would include a Sept. 24 visit to the White House, Politico reported.

"We look forward to it," Trump said.
