Florida is home to three of the Republican candidates, including Trump, DeSantis, and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez.
Former President Donald Trump stands well ahead of nearest rival Ron DeSantis in the pair's resident state of Florida, according to a recent poll.
In the state primary race, Trump claimed the support of 50% of registered Republicans to the Florida governor's 30%, according to a Florida Atlantic University Mainstreet PolCom Lab poll. No other candidate took double digit support.
Florida is home to three of the Republican candidates, including Trump, DeSantis, and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez. DeSantis, whom polls universally place as the runner up to Trump, has heavily touted his landslide reelection bid in the Sunshine State and record as governor while campaigning.
Trump, for his part, resides primarily in Florida and makes his home at Mar-a-Lago. The Sunshine State is a key primary battle and a Trump victory in DeSantis's home state could seriously undermine his campaign.
In the general election, the state appears to have swung decidedly Republican, with Trump leading President Joe Biden by 10 points, 49% to 39%. DeSantis, meanwhile, performed even better against the incumbent commander-in-chief, leading Biden 49% to 36%.
Conducted by June 27-July 1, the survey questioned 933 Florida adults and has a margin or error of +/- 3.2%.
