Trump to meet with Ken Paxton on Tuesday: Report

The Texas race is expected to favor the Republican, but will likely prove more competitive than the Lone Star State was in 2024.

President Donald Trump will meet with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Tuesday evening after the Republican won the party nomination for Senate, Politico reported.

Paxton defeated Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, last month in a primary runoff for the party nomination. Though he placed second to Cornyn in the first round, Paxton decisively won the second after Trump endorsed him.

His success in ousting a longtime incumbent has riled some of the upper chamber's leaders. The Tuesday meeting will mark Paxton's first meeting with Trump since the primary.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee this week created a joint fundraising vehicle for Paxton's campaign, signaling a pivot from its attacks against him during the primary.

The Texas race is expected to favor the Republican, but will likely prove more competitive than the Lone Star State was in 2024.
