Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday racked up several endorsements from congressional lawmakers, including two from Florida, the home state of Trump's most formidable would-be challenger, Gov. Ron DeSantis.
GOP Reps. John Rutherford, Fla.; Greg Steube, Fla.; and Lance Gooden, Texas; all announced their support for the former president as he continues to lead the polls for the GOP nomination in 2024.
"Today, I am proud to endorse my friend, President Donald J. Trump," Rutherford said in a statement. "Under President Trump's leadership America was more safe, more secure, and more prosperous, and as the 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump will Make America Great Again!"
"Today I continue my unwavering support for the America First movement by endorsing the leader of our party, President Donald Trump for re-election to President of the United States!" Steube said in a tweet.
The Florida lawmakers' endorsements are noteworthy, as consistent congressional support with the Florida delegation for Trump could impact the potentially close contest in the state, should DeSantis enter the race. Several Florida Republicans have already backed Trump, including Reps. Byron Donalds, Anna Paulina Luna, Matt Gaetz, and Cory Mills.
