Trump forecasts 2024 announcement at Ohio rally

Former President Donald Trump said at a rally in Dayton, Ohio, on Monday that he would make a major "announcement" on Nov. 15 after the midterm elections.

Trump provided few details but implied he would make his 2024 campaign official on that date. He said he did not wish to "detract" from the importance of the midterm elections.

He began his rally by touting his support for Ohio Republican Gov. Mike DeWine, Lt. Gov. John Husted, and Senate candidate J.D. Vance. He joked to Vance that his strong poll numbers rendered the rally unnecessary and pretended to walk toward the plane before returning to the podium.

He also pointed to President Joe Biden's last-minute announcement that he would seek to end oil drilling. Trump disputed the White House's subsequent effort to dismiss the president's comments, insisting "he said no more drilling."

Trump spent much of the rally recalling the accomplishments of his time in office and bemoaning the state of the country under his successor's leadership.

Though press reports had speculated the former president would announce his 2024 presidential candidacy, he declined to do so, instead foreshadowing the Nov. 15 announcement.

He again reiterated his claims of widespread fraud in the election system and asserted that the most effective remedy against electoral fraud was decisive and indisputable victory. Trump reminded attendees of the importance of Tuesday's election, which he called "country saving."

"We need a landslide so big that the radical left cannot rig it," he said.
