President Donald Trump on Friday thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for canceling planned hangings amid ongoing protests across the country.

"I greatly respect the fact that all scheduled hangings, which were to take place yesterday (Over 800 of them), have been cancelled by the leadership of Iran. Thank you!" he posted on Truth Social.

Trump previously threatened military strikes on Iran if the government continued executing demonstrators. Tehran has witnessed a surge in anti-regime demonstrations in recent days, though the government does not appear prepared to make any concessions to them.

The United States last year struck Iranian nuclear facilities, leading to a brief exchange of fire between Israel and Iran. American allies in the gulf, however, have cautioned Trump against further military action.

Trump has, however, ramped up sanctions on the regime, announcing a 25% tariff on any nation doing business with Tehran earlier this month.
