Former President Donald Trump began his final day of rallying with a stop in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he made the case for imposing tariffs on Mexico to encourage a crackdown on illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

"Now we have a new president Mexico, supposedly, a very, very nice woman, they say," Trump said at a rally in Raleigh, N.C. "I haven't met her, and I'm going to inform her on day one or sooner, that if they don't stop this onslaught of criminals and drugs coming into our country, I'm going to immediately impose a 25% tariff on everything they send in to the United States of America."

"You're the first ones I've told it to," he said to the crowd. "Congratulations, North Carolina. And it's only got a 100% chance of working because if that doesn't work, I'll make it 50. And if that doesn't work, I'll make it 75 for the tough guys, and I'll make it 100. Then I'll make it 100 and at some point, they'll have so many soldiers on their southern border."

Trump made the remarks at the first of four planned rallies for the final day of his campaign ahead of the Tuesday election. He is due to speak at two venues in Pennsylvania and another in Michigan later in the day.
