Truth Social threatens legal action against media outlets over coverage of its finances
"Our company is the centerpiece of a rapidly growing movement, and we created the platform for a fraction of the cost spent by the Big Tech giants," CEO Devin Nunes said.
The Trump Media & Technology Group on Wednesday issued a statement excoriating media outlets for allegedly publishing false materials on the company's finances and threatened them with legal action if they did not retract their articles.
The statement followed the company on Monday submitting an amended S4 registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), marking one of the final developments toward completing a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) that would enable the listing of Truth Social on the stock exchange.
"On November 13, 2023, Truth Social’s merger partner, Digital World Acquisition Corp (DWAC), submitted an amended S-4 registration statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission," the company stated. "The submission was a major milestone toward completing our merger with DWAC. The mainstream media, however, responded by launching a momentous smear campaign against Truth Social and its parent company, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG)."
"Instead of reporting that we’re advancing toward completing our planned merger with DWAC, dozens of outlets, in an apparently coordinated attack, published a fake news story that fabricated utterly fictitious financial results for TMTG," the company continued. "TMTG will not tolerate being smeared like this. We have now sent media outlets more than twenty retraction demand letters. Every outlet that defamed TMTG or Truth Social must completely retract its article and issue a public apology in print, on its website, and on its social media accounts—or face swift legal action."
"Having served as the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee during the committee’s investigation of the Russia collusion hoax and the first impeachment of President Trump, I’ve seen my share of fake news attacks," TMTG CEO Devin Nunes said. "But I’ve never seen one as massive, malicious, and tightly coordinated as the parade of nearly identical stories touting false financial results for Truth Social."
"Our company is the centerpiece of a rapidly growing movement, and we created the platform for a fraction of the cost spent by the Big Tech giants," he continued. "The mainstream media, apparently, is frustrated they can’t stop us, so they defame us. Having squandered the trust of the American people, the mainstream media has become a pitiful, embittered, and increasingly idiotic industry."
