Tuberville on Trump immigration quip: 'I'm mad he wasn't tougher'

While a litany of Republicans have rushed to condemn a recent remark by former President Donald Trump insisting that the influx of new, illegal arrivals to the nation were "poisoning the blood of our country," Alabama GOP Sen. Tommy Tuberville suggested the remark did not go far enough.

Trump remarks prompted furious condemnation from Senate Republicans and a series of negative articles from the legacy media. The Biden campaign, for its part, said Trump "parroted Adolf Hitler," according to The Hill.

Tuberville,  however, suggested the remarks were apt and that the ongoing influx of illegal border crossings and the systemic chaos that has even Democratic Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs pleading for federal assistance warranted even harsher condemnation.

"I'm mad he wasn’t tougher than that, because have you seen what’s happening at the border?" the Alabama senator said.

The Anti-Defamation League and legacy media have seized on the Hitler comparisons in the wake of Trump's own quip about planning to run the country as a dictator on his first day in office.
