Reform UK leader Nigel Farage is set to face joke candidate Count Binface in the Clacton-on-Sea by-election.

"Today my record in public office will be judged by the people of Clacton, not by politicians and the media in Westminster.

I look forward to their verdict," Farage said in a statement.

Farage stepped down as an MP in the face of an inquiry into his finances, hoping to put the issue to the voters of his constituency. But none of the major parties fielded a candidate against Farage, leaving the race a matchup between him and a joke candidate.

Count Binface is a novelty candidate known for wearing a trash can or bin on his head. He sports a cape and armor and has put forward a litany of odd policies, including a pledge to "nationalize Adele."

The character is a variation on "Lord Buckethead," an earlier novelty candidate who has run in several  by-elections.
