Vance receives formal nomination for VP by acclamation at RNC
Trump kept Vance's nomination close to the vest for months, though he dropped the occasional hint throughout the selection process.
After former President Donald Trump chose Ohio GOP Sen. J.D. Vance to serve as his running mate, the Republican National Convention formally nominated him for the post by acclamation.
House Speaker Mike Johnson then formally took the stage and officially announced the Trump/Vance ticket.
Trump announced he had chosen Vance in a Truth Social post ahead of the official nomination.
"After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio," Trump posted.
Trump kept Vance's nomination close to the vest for months, though he dropped the occasional hint throughout the selection process. Also making the shortlist were Florida GOP Sen. Marco Rubio and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.
