Virginia prosecutors drop misdemeanor gun charge against GOP Rep. Spartz
She had faced a Class 1 misdemeanor, which carries a $2,500 fine and a maximum sentence of one year in prison.
Prosecutors in Virginia's Loudoun County dropped a misdemeanor weapons charge against Indiana Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz after she completed a gun safety course.
The Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney brought the charge automatically after the lawmaker brought a gun to Dulles International Airport in the county, The Hill reported. The case docket not includes a notice that authorities do not wish to prosecute her over the incident.
She had faced a Class 1 misdemeanor, which carries a $2,500 fine and a maximum sentence of one year in prison.
During the July incident, Spartz brought a .380 caliber pistol in her handbag to the airport, which Transportation Security Administration (TSA) found during the security check.
“Last Friday, Rep. Spartz accidentally carried an empty handgun in her suitcase with no magazine or bullets, which she did not realize was in the pocket of her suitcase, while going through security at Dulles airport," her office said at the time.
