Voters doubtful Pence can win GOP nomination: poll
The question is separate from whether respondents support Pence winning the nomination.
U.S. voters appear broadly skeptical that former Vice President Mike Pence will successfully challenge his old running mate for the Republican nomination and become the party's standard bearer in 2024.
Nearly two-thirds of like U.S. voters, 64%, do not believe it is likely that Pence will win the primary, in the latest Rasmussen Reports poll. That figure includes 36% who say it isn't likely at all. By contrast, just 29% consider the prospect of a Pence nomination likely.
The question is separate from whether respondents support Pence winning the nomination and includes all likely U.S. voters rather than solely Republicans or likely primary voters.
That 29% believe a Pence win is likely is striking given his current status in most Republican primary polls. Pence earns 4.9% support in the primary field, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average. Former President Donald Trump stands in the lead with 52.0% while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis trails with 21.6%.
Conducted between from June 7-8 and 11, the survey questioned 1,003 likely U.S. voters and has a margin of error of +/- 3%.
