Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., was caught on a hot mic on Thursday telling President Joe Biden that the Democratic Party was facing setbacks in its bid to hold the upper chamber in the midterms.

"We're in danger in that seat," Schumer could be heard telling the president, per the Gazette. It remains unclear to what seat the senator was referring.

The exchange took place in Syracuse, N.Y., an upstate city in a region that will likely prove a pivotal battleground in the traditionally deep-blue state's unusually close gubernatorial contest. Republican Lee Zeldin is seeking to unseat Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul in a contest that RealClearPolitics currently rates a "toss up."

Schumer was also heard to tell Biden that "the debate didn't hurt us too much in Pennsylvania. So that's good." He further said Democrats were "picking up steam" in a Nevada race, but it was not clear what contest he was referencing.

Republicans are poised to take the House majority in the midterms, though various election forecasters remain mixed on the GOP's Senate prospects. RCP currently projects that the party will secure 53 seats in the upper chamber while 538 currently gives the party a 48% chance of taking the majority.
