The election integrity bills were filed to respond to widespread failures with Harris County’s election processes in the 2020 and 2022 elections. The county is still embroiled in lawsuits over multiple election irregularities that occurred on Election Day, Nov. 8, 2022.
The Biden administration claimed the law was “Jim Crow 2.0.”
Election integrity advocates still raised concerns about using some of these methods.
“This alarming situation raises serious questions about the security and integrity of the election process in Maricopa County and potentially beyond,” wrote Hamadeh.
Trump’s order signed Tuesday said the patchwork of voting methods across the country can lead to basic chain-of-custody problems. The order was also critical of mass voting by mail.
“The Biden-Harris DOJ is definitely going after states and municipalities who are trying to secure their elections and make sure that elections are not polluted or manipulated by illegal votes,” Cleta Mitchell said.
Republicans are prioritizing issues such as ensuring that only U.S. citizens vote in federal elections and that the private funding of U.S. elections is prohibited.
Vigilance may have paid off: “There were fewer problems across the board this year,” Jason Snead said.
