Illinois joins New York, California is ordering residents to stay home
<p>Illinois late Friday afternoon became the third U.S. state in which residents have been ordered to stay at home to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.</p><p>The order by Gov. J.B. Pritzker follows a similar one by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo earlier in the day and one Thursday night by California Gavin Newsom.</p><p>The orders, which require residents to stay indoors unless they have a vital reasonto leave, will impact roughly 70 million Americans.</p><p>Cuomo announced that starting Sunday night all workers in non-essential businesses across New Yorkmuststay home, in an effort to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.</p><p>"On the businesses on the valve, we reduced it to 50% of the workforce. We then reduced it to 75% of the workforce must stay home and today we're bringing it to 100% of the workforce must stay home," Cuomo said.</p><p>He said that essential workers –including those whowork ingrocery stores or for utilitycompanies and internet service providers – will still be needed. Public transport also will remain in operation.</p>
