New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said he's reopening state parks and allowing golf courses to reopen as early as Saturday.

Murphy eased closures that he put in place April 7, opening all state parks as the state still grapples with high rates of the coronavirus.

The governor said he made the decision based on “data, science, fact,” and not because of protests from some residents and opposition from some lawmakers.

But as people return to parks there will be rules in place to maintain social distancing, including limiting parking capacity to half of what is typically allowed.

Playgrounds, restrooms and visitor centers will remain closed, and organized activities including team sports are prohibited, the governor said. Wearing masks is strongly urged.

On Tuesday, hundreds of protesters gathered in Trenton to demand Murphy lift the near-lockdown orders.
