Newsom pushes for federal funding, saying it shouldn't be a 'red or blue' issue

<p>Gov. Gavin Newsom says the unemployment numbers will create hardships “more acute than anything we’ve seen in modern times,” and called on the federal government to step in and aid the state.</p><p>“We really need the federal government to do more,” he said at his daily new briefing Thursday. "This is not a red state issue, not a blue state issue, that's tiring. Saying that it's not a red county issue or blue county issue, that's tiring. It's about human needs that need government at a time, great need and great stress, more than they ever have in our lifetimes."</p><p>He also delivered a detailed plan for reopening retail through curbside pickup across the state, presenting the first major changes to the shelter-in-place order that has been in effect for more than seven weeks.</p><p>Retailers such as book stores, florists and sporting good stores will be allowed to resume business as early as Friday if they meet social-distancing guidelines. Manufactures and warehouses that support these retailers will also be allowed to reopen with modifications.</p>
