Argentinean soccer match abandoned after police let out tear gas into stadium, at least 1 dead
One fan died from what an official said was a heart problem as an Argentinian soccer match was abandoned on Thursday, October 6, after tear gas used by police drifted into the stadium. The security minister for Buenos Aires province, Sergio Berni, was quoted in local press as saying the match had been oversold. Berni said there were clashes between soccer fans and police after tear gas was used in a bid to prevent too many people entering the Juan Carmelo Zerillo stadium in La Plata. The game between Gimnasia and Boca Juniors was abandoned just nine minutes in, with the Argentinian Football League tweeting it was due to a lack of security at the stadium. Footage posted by journalist Pampa Aranda, who covers Boca Juniors, shows fans on the pitch and Aranda feeling the effects of the tear gas. Credit: Pampa Aranda via Storyful
