British man arrested after climbing 72-story skyscraper in Seoul

A 24-year-old British man was arrested by South Korean authorities as he attempted to scale the 555-meter-tall Lotte World Tower in Seoul on June 12, local media reported. The Korea Times identified the climber as George King-Thompson. He started his ascent of the 123-story skyscraper at around 5 am local time on Monday morning, the Korea Times reported. A security guard called police to report “a foreigner, only in his underwear, was climbing up the outer wall of the building,” the paper said. Local firefighters intercepted the climber while he rested at the 72nd floor of the building, the Korea Herald reported. King-Thompson scaled London’s Shard in 2019, according to a BBC report from the time. Credit: Songpa Fire Station via Storyful
