Russia and Ukraine Scandals
IAEA sets off from Kyiv to Zaporizhzhia to inspect nuclear power plant
A team from the UN nuclear watchdog has left Kyiv to travel to Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia to inspect the nuclear power plant there, the organization’s Director General Rafael Grossi told reporters Wednesday. “After six months of efforts, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is moving into the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. As you know, we have a very important task there to perform: to assess the situation, to help stabilize the situation as much as we can. I am very conscious of the relevance of this moment. We are ready, the IAEA is ready,” Grossi said. A delegation of 14 international experts from the IAEA will visit the Zaporizhzhia facility in southeastern Ukraine to inspect its condition, as fears mount over a potential nuclear accident amid renewed shelling.
