Much of Bakhmut lying in ruins as fighting continues in frontline city

The scale of war damage in Bakhmut, in Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast, was starkly demonstrated in footage posted on January 5, taken from a car driving along streets lined by ruined buildings. Fighting was continuing in the city, with the State Border Service of Ukraine saying on January 4 that a counterattack had been launched by Ukrainian armed forces.
