NYC reaches $13.7 million settlement with George Floyd protestors

New York City agreed to a $13.7 million civil lawsuit settlement Wednesday over police officers’ treatment of protestors during the George Floyd protests. The lawsuit against the city accused the NYPD of beating protestors with batons and fists, forcing them into small spaces where they couldn’t escape, and unlawfully arresting them during 18 protests in the summer of 2020. Roughly 1,300 people will receive nearly $10,000 each from the settlement.
