U.S. to provide $64 million in humanitarian assistance to Sub-Saharan Africa
'This assistance will enable U.S. humanitarian partners to meet urgent, lifesaving needs'
The State Department on Monday announced a new round of humanitarian aid for "refugees and other displaced and vulnerable populations across Sub-Saharan Africa."
The latest aid package totals $64 million, "bringing the total U.S. humanitarian assistance in Sub-Saharan Africa to more than $3.8 billion so far in Fiscal Year 2024," according to a State Department press release.
"This assistance will enable U.S. humanitarian partners to meet urgent, lifesaving needs of refugees and other displaced and vulnerable populations across Sub-Saharan Africa," also according to the release. "It will also build durable solutions, including voluntary return in safety and dignity, and local integration within host communities."
The release "acknowledge[s] the tremendous efforts the people of Senegal and other countries in the region have already made to welcome refugees, returnees, and internally displaced persons in their communities."
