The White House on Tuesday announced an agreement with China to stem the flow of fentanyl into the U.S.

Under the agreement, China will begin scheduling three essential precursor chemicals used to manufacture illicit fentanyl, thereby subjecting them to additional regulation and control," according to a White House statement.

The White House touted the development as "the third significant scheduling action" since " bilateral counternarcotics cooperation" resumed.

"Senior officials from both countries reviewed progress in bilateral counternarcotics efforts, including recent arrests, and discussed next steps in furthering cooperation on this critical effort," according to a U.S. Indo-Pacific Command press release.

The officials also focused on law enforcement coordination and disrupting criminal financial networks, according to USINDOPACOM.
