"The number of injured could be in the hundreds, and the deaths could go up as well," Jajarkot District Official Harish Chandra Sharma told the outlet in a phone interview.
A police official told Reuters that houses have completely collapsed, people have been rushed out of their homes and officials are working with crowds of terrified people.
Nepal's Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal came to the affected region Saturday and issued orders for search and rescue operations, according to the BBC.
Dahal expressed his deep sorrow for the situation on the social media platform X.
