Ceasefire brokered by Melania Trump goes into effect, appears to be holding in first hours

A ceasefire brokered by first lady Melania Trump as a humanitarian measure to help people trapped in a Russian-occupied town in Ukraine went into full effect early Tuesday.
Hours after it began at 3 a.m. local time, the ceasefire appeared to be holding. Attacks continued elsewhere, but there are no reports of combat activity by either side in Oleshky, NBC News reported.
The ceasefire agreement followed months of warnings from Ukrainian officials about a humanitarian catastrophe building in the frontline town. The White House said that the ceasefire would "temporarily stop all military action in Oleshky to allow for humanitarian aid to enter and to prepare a civilian evacuation through a designated safe passageway."
Officials from the Kremlin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s ruling faction in parliament reported that there have so far been no reports of ceasefire violations.
