Estonia becomes first NATO country to formally call for Ukraine no-fly zone
The Biden administration has been reluctant to establish or help establish a non-fly zone
Estonia has become the first NATO country to formally call for a no-fly zone over Ukraine, with the country’s parliament also Monday urging fellow United Nations members to follow its decision, as Russia continues its air attack on Ukraine.
The Estonia parliament urged fellow UN members to "take immediate steps to establish a no-fly zone,” according to Fox News.
"The Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) expresses its support to the defenders and the people of the state of Ukraine in their fight against the Russian Federation that has launched a criminal war," the parliament said in a statement.
"The Riigikogu asks the UN member states to take immediate steps to establish a no-fly zone in order to prevent massive civilian casualties in Ukraine." the body stated.
The Riigikogu also urges all other national parliaments to adopt a similar statement.
Poland has made efforts to provide air support to Ukraine to help the country stop Russia’s unchecked missile attacks.
The Biden administration has been reluctant to establish or help establish a non-fly zone, amid concerns such a move would provoke Russian leader Vladimir Putin to further escalate attacks, amid increasing bipartisan pressure on Capitol Hill to provide some air support.
