Charles automatically became king upon the death of his mother last year.
First lady Jill Biden will attend the coronation of King Charles III of the United Kingdom, President Joe Biden indicated Tuesday.
Biden confirmed his wife's plans speaking directly to the British sovereign, The Hill reported. Biden will not attend the May 6 event. The last such coronation was that of Charles's mother, Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Similarly, President Dwight David Eisenhower did not attend.
Biden confirmed during the call to King Charles that he hoped to meet with him in person in the United Kingdom.
Charles automatically became king upon the death of his mother last year. The coronation is an official ceremony confirming the sovereign's position that takes place at Westminster Abbey.
Likewise, Queen Elizabeth II became queen upon the death of her father, King George VI, in 1952 and had her coronation the following year.
Both Bidens attended the queen's funeral.
